On the team
Omar leads the software work that lets LEAP-One perceive its surroundings, estimate its position and respond to the operator. His team responsibilities cover the ROS 2 stack, RealSense perception, localisation, obstacle avoidance and ground-station teleoperation. They place him at the meeting point between sensor data, navigation decisions and real hardware.
Known professionally as Omar Abbas, he studies at Hochschule Schmalkalden and has trained in embedded systems and deep learning for self-driving cars. He also founded Schmalkalden Autonomous Racing, extending his interest in perception, control and vehicle autonomy into another student engineering programme.
